GCHE recognizes that the link between animal cruelty and human violence has been proven repeatedly. Cultivation of compassion for animals offers a unique tool in the effort to stop the cycle of violence. Violence in schools is rising at an alarming rate in Georgia and the rest of the United States. Humane Education is one of the tools proven to intercept the escalation of violence.
Additionally, research proves that humane education fosters compassion in students, and enhances the message of the Character Education program that is mandated by the state of Georgia. In addition to the many life-enhancing lessons taught, Humane Education also fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking-all essential elements of a good educational program.
